The Challenge
Discovery Education needed media to enhance 101 science lessons as part of their High School Science Techbook, a subscription-based online curriculum available to schools and districts. These videos would focus on key concepts within 4 main subject areas including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth/Space and would incorporate animation and live action. Paladin was approached by Educational Media Consultants (EMC2) to act as the production house for this massive project. All 101 of the short films would need to be delivered within 6 months— and all on a very tight budget.
The Solution
Paladin Media Group immediately brought together a team of 35 people, including producers, editors, animators, camera operators, & content experts. Paladin strategized an approach to creating these videos in an efficient and budget conscious manner.
We then created a pilot episode that tackled a physics problem with creativity, stylized animation, and expert content. Upon approval by Discovery, we launched into production on the remaining 100 episodes.
Due to budgetary limitations we knew that distant travel was not an option, so we leaned heavily on the science professors at the University of Virginia and pulled in a few more professors from around the Commonwealth of Virginia. The challenge on this project was to successfully create video content that would enhance a teachers lesson on the given topic and allow students to better understand and even master some of the content.
The Results
Discovery Education received five 3-5 minute science films a week over a 20 week period to help them prepare for the launch of their new High School Science Techbook. Paladin successfully helped the client meet their target deadline and stay within their budget in the process of creating all 101 films. This project is now being used in high schools across the country and around the globe.
